I tune that way and have enjoyed DR Lo Riders on my basses.

My experience is that you need at least a .145 for A. Even that large gauge has a very low tension of roughly 30 pounds, same tension as a .090-.095 E string. Any looser and the tone starts to suffer, you start to get dull floppy tone.
I recommend creating a custom set from singles and using a .145. I use D'Addario ProSteel .145, it's an excellent flexible bright string.
Alternatively a drop-tune set from Circle K Strings has the gauges chosen for equal tension on each string in the drop tuning. Excellent strings but are nickelplated, might not be bright enough for you?

Have you tried any taper core B-strings at all?
