After 8 years of faithful service

Sign in to disble this ad
After having my flats on my Ric for nearly 8 years, my faithful servant A died last night during the first song.

How long did Jamerson have his strings on? I was shooting for 20+ years! Ah well.

Problem is I don't remember what I used brand wise or gauge!

ANy suggestions? Looking to stay away from that weird mmwwwaaahhhh twang a lot of news flats have.

What color is the silk? What color are the string balls?

The silk is medium blue.

The string balls are:

E - brass
A - blue
D - black
G - green

Open to suggestions too. I used to love Rotosounds. But I think I put something else on there. And I remember it sounding weird for a least a couple of weeks.

Sounds like the D'Addario color scheme to me.

8 years might be a record of some type. I'd think your story should score you a new set of strings from the manufacturer.

I broke two strings last year

They were LaBella Deep Talkin flats, probably 5 or six years old. I have now switched to GHS Precision flats because I am cheap. I do like them, they are close in tone to the LaBellas. They do have purple silk, which is a little weird.

D'Addario. Aren't they the only one's who have color coded ball ends?

I use a Caliper micrometer at my local guitar shop to determine the guage if my old pack is discarded.

The blue silk does sound strange to be a set of Daddario's though....

Sure sounds like D'Addario Chomes, especially the bit about sounding weird for a couple of weeks. And that is the D'Addario ball end color coding scheme.

If you liked them, I'd just grab another set. Once you get past that initial break in period, they're great strings.

On the contrary. If my customers only purchased once from me in 8 years, I wouldn't consider them important enough to give free strings.

Chromes have blue silk. Definitely sounds like a set of Chromes to me as well.
