Question Aging new strings faster for better tone?

Sign in to disble this ad
So i got a new Jazz bass and got a setup on it and got some new strings( Ernie Ball Heavy guage) and i am just hating to the sound of the new strings just too bright.

So here is my question. Is there a way to quickly age stings so they get past the new string sound and into the broke in sound?

thx

First off, get some different strings, if you think they sound bad now just wait... The best way to wear them in is to play them hard, nothing like a little skin and grease!!!

Buy bulks of used strings here on talkbass when people post them. If used string sound is your thing.

New strings may be the answer but i wanted to try to use these as they are new and money does not grow on trees.

I have been wanting to try flats and this may be the time to try it but i still want to get some of my money out of these strings

When you try flats try Chromes they make for an easy transition from rounds, although I hear lately they're workmanship is getting a little shoddy.

Just play them constantly. Keep your bass with you when you are watching TV and play it unplugged. Not a bad time to run scales up and down the neck and to practice fretting your notes accurately. Just be careful not to over do it and hurt your hands.
