alembics

I got some for my epic and loved them. Only deal was my fingers got chewed up by them (SS rounds). Now I am playing Thomaskic jazz flats and much easier to play, and play fast, but I miss being able to dig in and get that growl. I will probably go back to the Alembics and just build up my fingers.

Nice bright strings but a little more subdued than the DR hi beams I tried before that.

Cheers,

Michael

The Alembic compression wounds are a good semi round. The windings are eliptical rather than round (one of the common ways to make a "less scratchy" roundwound). I use them on my short scale Alembic. Unfortunately, no experience on other basses. Not too hard on fingers or frets and they wear in to a nice, woody sound rather than going dead. I've had a set on for about 9 months and like the sound better every day.
