Alergic against Nickel :-(

Sign in to disble this ad
hi guys

i just found out that im alergic against nickel :-(
so i have to use stainless steels (use stainless flats on my p bass allready wich i really like)
are there any smooth stainless strings ?
what are my alternatives UNDER 30$
just warwick red label, dean markley blue steels and rotos ?
(i dont like rotos and the pyramids ss)

and im looking for roundwounds that can get many different types of music genres
(like reggae, funk, ska, pick player punkrock and even dinner jazz)

added note:
and no elixiers cause of part time pick playing ;-)

under 30? idk But my elixers are pretty smoothe as far as stainless steal. They run you 35 Bucks but they literally last me a year at a time and always sound like they are brand new.

AVOID WARWICK STRINGS if you want a smooth feel.. they feel like SANDPAPER

my proplem with the elixier is that the wrapping in the bag and at the piont where you hit the strings with the pick comes of :-(
i do mostly play fingerstyle, but the pick playing made me not buying them again
(but thanks !)
any other alternatives ? (the dr black beauties are stainless steel too, arent they?)

not sure.. probably tho. give them a try, its the only way to really know what they are like. Havent tried many DR strings myself so I can't really comment.

I agree with you that elixers can be troublesome for some things. I find tapping also very difficult with elixers because of their slippery nature. Not for everybody but I am addicted to them.

I have yet to find any stainless strings that are you would call smooth: most are pretty rough to the touch, yet some people, like me, like this roughness (I like my string to be a little grabby).

Maybe just stick to flats ? I'm sure there are some bright, deep sounding stainless flats somewhere that won't murder your fingers. But if you go through two sets of Rotos, you'll develop the callouses and won't have to worry about strings hurting your fingers ever again.

PS: Strings that can do dinner jazz usually cannot do punkrock, unless you love to eq your signal. This is why I like to have multiple basses for multiple purposes.

DR Fat Beams are pretty smooth to the touch, as are Hi-Beams, when compared to most other stainless steel roundwound strings.

hm, i DO like flats but i HATE the sound of flats played with a pick .... its too beatles to me ;-) (dont get me wrong i like the beatles ;-)

that ill have a lot to eaqualize is sth that i know and am able to do.

its "only" the bass for my coverbandgigs with dinnerjazz in the evening and funk reggae rock in the nights AND upright slap rockabilly :-)
so my fingers are pretty "tough" but i just dont like the rough feeling the warwicks for example have !!!
.... and i have enough to carry at gigs (1 guitar,1 bass,1 upright, amps micstuff etc)

i think i give the dr black beauties and some edding marker pen a try :-) (i did like the coated dr)

what about those ? FENDER 9120 Nylon Tape Wound or FENDER 7120 Nylon Filament (do they sound "punky" / harsh enough with a pick?)

...but really guys ! big thanks to all of you ! you always help me out a lot !!!!!

ok i tried both !
Nylon Tape Wound
sound cool finger style funk/uprightsound/jazz/latin even motown
very "different" with a pick
FENDER 7120 Nylon Filament
sound "more mordern". you can even slap them but the tension is so bad ! the 100 E is more than floppy and the 70G is perfect tension wise !
so you loose tension string by string :-(
thats really bad cause i would put them on all my basses if they would have a bigger a and e string......
