here is a situation I think that the flats SUCK completely. What the heck is Pino thinking with that bass and those strings there? He would sound so much better with some rotosounds in 35-90 for this band. Argue amongst yourself.. but I think he's not tonally matched to the drums and guitar. I know this guy is your idol and all, and I love me some Pino but this sounds just wrong with The Who.
And as for this Zombie thread title- I must not be a bass player then.. Shrug.

Bassplayer 1 uses flats....
Bassplayer 2 uses flats....
Bassplayer 3 uses flats...
...
Bassplayer n uses flats... (let n be a large amount)
-> Conclusion: All bass players use flats.
This is exactly why the principle of falscification was 'invented'. It states that every hypothesis (all bass players use flats) must be stated in such a way, that I may to turn out another way. If that happens (after control experiments) the hypothesis is rejected or 'falscified'. And that's what we just did!
If we gain our knowledge only trough verification (only using examples that proof your conclusion) statements that may be just the other way around like this pop up.
Hooray for logic and the philosophy of science!
(I'm sorry for posting this, I just realized it found it necessary to share it with you guys)

That bass will always have flats. I love those. Still funky with a tone adjustment. I use rounds on my 5 string so I have both worlds.

I use flats about 70 % of the time.
Rounds the other 30%.
I've been into flats since I started playing 30 years ago.
Two of my basses have flats, two have rounds, one has nylon coated flats.
The song tells me which bass to use.
And just EQ, your amp for tone.
I have discovered one thing, flats love reverb.
A good reverb pedal will go along way in tweeking your overall tone. in a good way. |

| | | | If I had my "druthers" I'd use nothing but my '69 Precision with the TI flats that are always on it. With that said, because of the type of music I play I use rounds on a 5 string J. |

Problem solved, now you can even slap it and won't feel that the D and G strings lack a bit more of a pop...
