Alternative to jazz rounds?
I am looking for an alternative to the thomastik jazz rounds. I find them best on my 6 string. The bass does better with that warm quality, as it tends to have too much bit in the hi mids with most round wounds, especially stainless steel strings.
I am not opposed to half or quater rounds, but I am not planning on putting flats on the bass. I have used a few labella offerings, daddario, TI superalloy, cocos, DRs, sr2000, sunbeams, and others. I like the thomastik jazz flats the best, but am looking for alternatives.
I have the exact same question. I love the low tension and awesome sound of TI Jazz rounds on my J bass but find the gauge a bit too light. It sounds as though Sunbeams and Sadowsky Blue Labels are possibilities but I've not tried either.
That's a tough one... for me, Jazz Rounds are about the most flat-like rounds I've used (i.e. the only rounds I don't despise ;))
Have you given GHS Pressure Wounds a thought? Give them a listen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GcQJyHGbeY
