Alternative uses for old strings

Sign in to disble this ad
When you live on a small island, stuff like this matters....

Do you have suggestions or stories about uses for old strings?

I'm not gonna boil them, and I'm not going to keep them as spares, but I have about three sets' worth sitting on my dresser that have been waiting for inspiration. My fiancee- the Japanese-American Martha Stewart- hasn't come up with anything either.

Ideas?

Keep one under your pillow in case you have an intruder and use it to choke them out.

Soak them in a container of denatured alcohol and then give them away on craigslist. Someone will appreciate a set of refurbished strings.

I chucked one in a hacksaw frame- rounds cut soft material nicely, and in any direction. I intended to file nuts w/it but it doesn't offer much control.

I have made fishing leaders out of them before. If you go after toothy fish and you don't want to pay for braided steel they work ok

I donate my old strings to local junior high and high school jazz bands. Believe me they need them! Most of the time they don't know when to replace them or how to properly set up a bass so I help them with that also.

I just got a cool bracelet made from 5 e strings wound around a 6 string guitar B string then I think they soldered the ends to a silver cap. It has been admired by many mostly chicks.Everybody ask what it is.They make them out in Point Reyes in west Marin
