Okay, I was given an "extra" set of Fender strings, brand new, except 1 was missing. They are "Nickel Plated Steel Roundwound" and present are #7045 .045, #7080 .080, and #7100 .100. I figured they could be useful for on my practice bass or something. I politely accepted them, put them in my soft case and promptly forgot about them.
So, I am about to restring my Samick to try and improve the sound and thought I'd try them out. I then remembered the missing string. I started searching the net and it looks like these might be discontinued.
Question 1, does anyone know where I can find a single .065 (Guessing #7065) string to match these other ones. I have a couple of other odd roundwounds, but the Fenders have the pretty blue ends and it would not match. The sound might also be off if they're not a good match.
Question 2, Is it even worth trying to match up a cheap set? Am I just being too anal?
I did just order a set of GHS Flatwounds to play with anyway. I'm hoping they are the sound and feel I'm looking for.
