Question Am I hurting my strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello All,

I scanned all the threads in this forum before posting but I didn't see an answer. What I want to know is how hard is it on strings to take them on and off a few times to try them on different basses. Specifically, I have a new set of TI Jazz Flats that I tried on my P Bass for a week, took off and now I want to try them on my Ric 4003 to hear them, knowing I will put my Roto 66's back on the Ric. These string will then end up on my MM Sterling Classic, most like to stay, but would like to maybe swap occasionally between them and some rounds on the MM as the mood strikes me.

Thanks for your help,

LEL

It won't hurt them, good luck getting them to line up length-wise with all those different basses...

Just sold the P Bass, so no worries there. For the record it was 34". The Ric is 33 1/4" and the MM is 34". The strings are 34". I guess the Ric would be the only weird one, which figures.
Still new to messing with strings a lot, so are 34" strings on a 33 1/4" scale lenght bass going to do anything weird?

If you're very carefull with bending them at the headstock (once a string is severely bended at a point in one direction, never counterbend them there the other direction) it's o.k.
The otherway around is more critical, a once bended part of a string must never be on the fretboard, cause that can sound dissonant. But since the diffence in length is less than 1", no problem.
