Am I stringing my bass incorrectly?

I put on new strings, and the colored wrapping at the top of the strings don't really line up to each other string.
The A string's colored wrapping is way further up, whereas the E, D, G strings wrapping are pretty much lined up.
I'm not sure if you guys can understand what I mean.
If you look at one of those sadowsky headstock pictures you can see that the colored wrapping is all neatly lined up pretty much whereas on mine, the A string wrapping seems to be much further up than the others.
It's probably nothing serious but I would like to know if I'm doing something wrong or what I should do to get it neatly lined up for my personal satisfaction.

I assume this is the Jazz style bass right?

There isnt much you can do, I have this problem on my new Jazz bass because the guy at the factory installed the strings wrong. Try to get the string as low to the base of the tuning shaft as possible. Otherwise the string wont be tight enough over the nut and cause buzz if you play an open A.

Or I could be completely wrong and be talking about something else.

yes its the jazz bass.
the D and G strings have a string tree
so the A string is the only one that visually sticks out if not pushed down low enough.

but the thing i was talking about was the colored wrapping at the tip of the strings you find in some brands like GHS, Sadowsky, etc.

i edited my post to clarify

Oh, now I get what your saying, I have never gotten color ended strings to line up.

I think its just how much you cut of the string or leave on, I wouldnt know though as I havent used strings with colored ends for a while.

Actually, it won't matter how much you cut off or leave on... the wrap distance from the ball end is something you can't change. The manufacturer just "screwed up" - though they never advertised the color wrap would all line up, so they just don't care.

As long as you've got all wrap (no metal) on the tuning posts, and no wrap extending past the nut over the fingerboard then I would say quit worrying about it.

All I have to say is that Fenders quality went down the drain during the late 80's. Don't they like give you a warranty on the bass? Take/ship it back to them.
