Am Jazz V - Nickels to replace old 8250's

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an 08 Fender American Jazz V. I like the string that originally came with, 8250-5m (old ones with the silver wraps) and was fortunate enough to find a few more sets over the last year. I have tried, with no luck to find any more those sets around.

I do not care for the new Fender replacement 8250's, received two sets with duds and was very disappointed in the change.

Anyway, this topic has been discussed but, has anyone found a decent set of nickels with a tapered B and E, that will string thorugh the body, without having to do major adjustments to the string saddles? Will Ken Smith's fit? D'Addario(who makes the new fenders i believe)?

Can't think of anything off the top of my head. Most that I know of (Sadowsky nickels, Labella Slappers) have a tapered B string, but not a tapered E.

Two sets come to mind for a stock set with a tapered B & E.

GHS Progressives:

Fantastic strings. They have great tone and lost a while. I like them quite a bit.

The next set is a good set as well. I like the GHS a little better but for the money these are also great strings.

Are the tapers on the GHS Progressives long enough to string the Fender thru the body?
