Anodizing your own strings

Sign in to disble this ad
A coworker today said he was going to get something on his truck anodized and it struck me... why couldn't i go get my own strings anodized. Specifically flatwounds. I always loved the way my bass looked when i set it up originally with black beauties, but when i tried out the steve harris flats i loved the sound through the q-tuners. Now i want the best of both worlds.

Anyone ever get regular strings powdercoated?

Powder coating won't stay stuck on, would probably crack off, anodizing is for aluminum.

I guess if it you REALLY wanted to get custom colored flats you could find someplace that can do a PVD finish, but it'd likely be pretty expensive.

"...in abrasion tests conducted by independent testing laboratories, PVD finishes have been found to be more than 23 times more resistant than chrome plating.."
