Another question--what strings on a used bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have found another used bass, an older Fender P-bass, that plays well and that I like. Part of its great sound is the strings, and I have no idea what brand they are,and neither does the current owner. I assume about all you can do is take the bass to a luthier and see it he recognizes the style and brand of string. Is there any other method you can think of that is less trouble?

There aren't that many brands out there and by and large the group on here will be able to recognize them. Take some very good quality, close up pictures of the ball ends, and the taper at the fine end and post them into this thread. Then PM a moderator and ask them to move this thread to the Strings forum. You'll have your answers in a short while...

Since you've given us exactly zero information on the strings, it's hard to help you. Are they flatwound or roundwound? Are there any silk wraps on the ends? If there are, what color? Are the balls (bridge end of string) colored?

I'll get together some photos and more data and update this thread. Thanks.
