Any GHS Flatwound 3025 Body-Through Users?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I have a string-through-body Fender P-Bass to which I've installed a Fender deluxe bridge to allow me to install flats bridge-through or I can load it with roundwounds body-through. Well that was the plan until tonight.

I've never used them before but I've got a set of GHS 3025 Precision flats (Light: 45-60-75-95) which I want to put on it. These strings are really pretty long as they are intended for both a 34 and 35 scale. It makes me want to set them up body-through for better sustain and to keep a "touch of silk" showing just above the nut.

Anyone else using these strings in a string-through body setup ever had one break? I know Labella always says specifically "DO NOT STRING THROUGH BODY" with their flats, but I had to try it once to see and popped a "D" string during a set. Just wondered if anyone had ever had a problem like that with the GHS Precision Flats or if they are more body-through tolerant.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Dave

Not the Precision flatwounds, but ive used a set of bright flats through the body on a MIA P. They were on there for years without issue.

I asked this very question on the GHS forum a while back. They said no problemo with stringing through the body.

I've got my Sting (SCP bass reproduction wtih the old STB bridge) strung wth a set of the medium gauge GHS Precision Flats (45/654/85/105 I beleive) with no problem at all. I know the Lakland Joe Osborn flats which are indistinquishable from the GHS say not to string through the body, but I'm guessing that it's because if you're not really careful it would be easy to mess it up, and Lakland doesn't want to have to replace expensive strings...

It is done!

Ok, I went through the body. I'll let you know if I pop one off. Thanks for the feedback.

I really like these strings. I was looking for a different sound from the TI flats I keep on my active Ibanez SRX700 which are just too low tension for some things. The GHS have nice full tones but really don't sound as thumpy as I thought they would. Still nice.
