Any interest in the DR NEONs in Flatwounds?

Sign in to disble this ad
I contacted DR Strings a few minutes ago asking if they were planning on expanding their NEON series to Flats. I got a reply within minutes saying there were no current plans but if they got enough requests that would change.

I just thought I'd let everyone know so if there were more than just myself interested be sure and go to their website, click the contact link and let them know!

David

Coated flats are defenitely on my wish list. Mainly because of the looks (I would really like black flats, but neon orange ones will do just fine), but also for the feel (especialy the elixer coating feels very good when playing lots of slides).

I'm using the DR green neons on my 5 string. The feel is MUCH different than elixers and in a good way IMO... less slime feeling to me.

Maybe some camouflage DR flats would be nice.

I would be in string heaven with some neon flats on my Minarik, especially in purple or blue.

The contact page is giving me a big old 404.

If they did them in 45 - 65 - 85 - 105 - 130 and black/brown/dark green I would put them on my five string in a heartbeat.

Heck yeah! Alvaro has a pic of him playing the neons on FB, and I'd love to give them a shot, except they're roundwound only.

HI David,

Thanks for the kind words! As of right now there are no plans to but if we get enough requests, anything is possible.

Hope all is well & thanks again,

I finally got the contact page working and sent in an e-mail. Here's the response:

Quote:
"There are no plans to make them at present as we haven't had much demand for that. In fact, you are the 2nd person to ask so far(both today). If the demand goes up, it'll be something we consider."
They're apparently receptive in e-mail, so it couldn't hurt to send one out if you haven't done so yet.

Yes! Pink and medium scale please. I've got an Aria Pro in desperate need of an '80s facelift. Off to send an email...

There must be some mention of it because you are now the 3rd inquiry for them. We really appreciate this interest. All of these inquiries are being sent to production, so we'll see.

Thanks again,

The DR Staff

We're becoming an actual movement!!!

Bassists UNITE!!! Lol

Maybe even members that don't actually want them should just send an email as a sign of solidarity.

Flatwounds Please

I've been playing flatwounds since 1974. I had to. My 1957 Rickenbacker 4000 required them.

This was a really early design and the truss rods were lengthened on subsequent models. The Rickenbacker factory told me that, "roundwounds will break your neck at the base."

So, fortunately for me, I've always used flatwounds. This is also the ONLY bass I've recorded with since 1975, so check it out on the AMERICAN ZEN albums of mine.

I used it on the BUDDHA ZHEN album also.

Over the years I've had to settle with groundwounds, but fresh flats are my favorites.

Lets keep those emails to DR going!!!!! As long as they can see enough of a demand that they will profit we WILL get what we want!

I don't understand this logic at all. Aside from string tension, what possible negative role could rounds play in terms of your bass' structural integrity?

I sent an email in support of this and got a nice personal letter from Steve. Maybe this will happen after all! I am in for two sets, if they come out.

I think I'll send them an e-mail requesting the Neons in hybrid gauges.

We don't all play the standard 100-40 or 105-45
