I don't think so- not 100% sure though - they do feel good under the fingers most definitely -

I'm on the on the fence about these. Any descriptions as to the feel/tension, tone etc? Any comparisons to other flats out there?

I love them - have 'em on all my gigging basses. The tone takes a little bit even out IMO - mostly with the E. After that they are very warm and round, and deliver a nice thump when called for.

My only gripe is when playing with them in high humidity steamy bar atmospere. They tend to get real sticky.

I am certainly not the authority on flatwounds, as I have not been using them for very long, but here are my observations-

Tensionwise they are similar to the rounds that i have been using (MTD steels)- a little more tense-

They are as tense or a tad less than La Bellas, more tense than TI's

They have slightly less sheen than the La Bella lights and I think they are a little punchier and thicker in the mids-

IMO-

Solowbass, a Talk Bass member, has a Precision with DR Flats on it. Here is a video of him playing. To me, they sound great. He has lots of You Tube clips.

I have a set on a P-bass...I like them. They're are tad more percussive and grittier than La Bellas.

Thanks a lot Jas.

The last six posts are the HighBeams thru the 15in. vintage tube Ampeg.
All of ther others are Markley flats that just got too nicked up. I couldn't replace them because they're not made anymore. The DRs are still a bit of a change for me. They're smooth(!) to the touch and have a nice growl to them, sing really nice in the upper register, and the tension is much lower. BUT, I miss the punch... I think.

I've been playing a set of Ken Smith slick rounds, nice feel and tone very similar to flats.

Tension is just about the same feel as DR High beams, not as low as TI's, just a nice bouncy feel to them.

I bought a de-fretted rock bass from ebay that had DR flats. As seen in that video, they sound nice, but I prefer my GHS precision flats. They have a little less mids IMO.

The DR's have less mids or the GHS has less mids?

I put DR flats on my 4003 and they sound great. Playing live (w/pick) the FOH guy at a recent show said the tone sounded awesome. Fundamental is very strong and they really fill out the live sound.

I have them on a '51 P bass reissue... I'm happy with them.

The real nice thing is that they are actually long enough for the string though bridge, I've run across several brands that are too short.

Reviving an old thread

I'm deciding what flats to put on my Kinal SK5, which is a very bright bass, but also has tons of mids. It has an East MusicMan EQ preamp. It currently wears DR Sunbeams, but I need to tame the highs. I have GHS Precision flats on my Lakland PJ, and I'm loving the feel of the finish on those. I think they might be dull and thuddy enough for this bass, but I love the feel and flexibility of the round core strings and the DR flats are intriguing me. I string the bass thru-body, so that's important. Chromes would be too bright, and LaBellas wouldn't give the right tone for this bass. It's between DR Flats and the GHS Precision flats...any comments?
