Any one tried EB flats?

Can't really find much anecdotal info about these guys. I was just wondering if anyone else plays them and what they think of em compared to other flats.

Love them; nice feel and don't get; start a little brighter than say Fenders and stay that way a long time; not too bright though
Have read here that they are made by d'Addario; could these be Chromes in a different package?

Maybe...

I've used both D'Addario Chromes and EB flats (105-50 sets) on the same instruments. They certainly seem to be very similar but the EBs sound a bit ballsier and feel better to me so IME there's something different about them.

I currently have EBs on my primary gig bass...and the set of Chromes take-offs in the bag as backup.

I've heard that the EBs were Chromes in different packaging and I never would have thought they were different but after working with several EB sets I think maybe they are different somehow.

I bought a used old set off the classifieds and I liked them. I thought they had more traditional thump then Chromes but otherwise nondescript.

I tried a set on my Jazz for a while but they were just a bit too bright for me. Some have suggested that they will mellow out over time but I couldn't get used to the clacking sound on the frets.

Seems a bit odd that a string maker would have another company make a style of strings for them. Might be a good question for the EB BBS.

I read somewhere that D'addario stopped making EB's strings around 15 years ago, so they will be different to Chromes. But I would guess that EB would have had to keep there strings similar to when D'addario made them, so they didnt suddenly get a lot of complaints.
