Any way to figure out what strings I have on my bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 5 string bass that broke a low B recently.

For the life of me, I can't remember what strings I have on there?

I tried to put a new low B, but it sounds so different.....I almost need a new full set.
I wouldn't mind a new set of the same strings....since I dig how the remaining 4 strings sound.

Any way I can figure this out?

All I know is they're rounds, brass bobbins, and black silk at both ends.

(the funny part is that I put the strings on, but have ZERO idea what they are.)

i'm sure you could help narrow it down by letting others know more possibilities, or what you know they're not

I've had D'Addario.....which they can't be....no multi-color bobbins.
I've had various Slinkys......but they don't have silk, right?
I've had DR Strings.....?
The La Bella Steels.....?
Rotosounds? ??

I don't think I had tried any others??

How can I tell the difference between nickel and steel?
(the replacement low B I had was a random stainless string....it was much darker metal in color than whatever is on there)

So it's gotta be either Rotosound or La Bella?

That would be my guess, if you've not bought any other brands.

Definitely not rotosounds they have red silk. If they are quite shiny they are probably nickel. Oh, always replace the full set of strings, if you replace just one it will never sound the same as the others (even if it's the same brand).

Tapered B string, or not tapered?

Smooth, bright and shiny, or rough, and dull grey?
