Anybody PLay Mike Lull Strings?

I thought the descriptions of Mike Lull's strings in BassPlayer magazine's string review were very enticing.

The steel rounds were described as "Sweet and extended top, growly bottom and detailed mids." Shows highs slightly favored over mids and lows.

The nickel plated steels were described as deep and growly bottom, moderate top-end extension, supportive." Shows the highs, mids and lows to be fairly well-balanced.

Both strings were described as medium on feel. I might try a set of the steels for my Sadowsky P.

No, they didn't designate an actual manufacturer for any of the luthiers that sell strings under their own name.

I called them today and ordered a set of steels and set of nickels for my Jazz and my P. I'll write a review once I've had a chance to put them on my bases.

I even spoke to Mike himself. I guess I could have asked him who manufactured his strings for him, but I decided not to. Very cool guy. I'd love to own one of his basses some day.

FYI: Just received my Mike Lull strings and it states on the package that they are made by Dunlop Manufacturing, Inc.

I put a set on my Hamer Blitz with a Kahler trem--there were the stainless 4 string set. There was great string-to-string balance, they lasted forever, and they were almost as bright and ballsy as the Roto 66s I normally use. But they lasted a lot longer than any Rotos ever will. I used the tremolo very heavily while I had the Mike Lull strings on there and they didn't grind down the nut nearly as much as Rotosounds and they handled the huge lows and crying highs that I like to get when using a Kahler to the greatest of its ability. They were really great strings and I'd gladly string that bass up with them again.

From the BP description, that sounds like Dunlop strings.

I wonder how much the Lulls and an off-the-shelf set of Dunlops differ. I have found Lakland and GHS strings to not differ at all, yet Sadowsky and La Bellas differ quite a bit.

Nice! I have a set of the steels I'm planning to try on my Modulus Genesis Jazz. Sounds like they should be pretty sweet.

I was wondering the same thing.

I just put the nickel set on my Sadowsky P and I really dig them so far. They have a great smooth feel with very subdued finger noise. The sound is very even from low to highs. The highs are really sweet without being at all zingy. The lows are deep and articulate. I read someone's description of Dunlop strings being dominated by the fundamental, which is probably why. I am really looking forward to playing these at rehearsal.

Actually, I knew they were the right string as soon as I pulled the first one out of the packaging, as the light blue silk matches perfectly with my Sonic Blue Sadowsky!
