Anyone Else Find Warwick Strings Too Metallic Sounding?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a new set of Warwick EMPs on my Dolphin Pro 1 and they are just so metallic sounding. I love the Warwick growl, but I need more warmth, especially in the mids and upper mids.

Any suggestions?

I have a set of balanced Circle K's on order. I have a traditional set on my Dingwall ABII and I really love them on that bass. I was thinking if that doesn't work, I might try some TI Flats or some D'Add half-rounds or maybe even Sadowsky Nickels.

I use DR Sunbeams on my Streamer. They are the perfect Warwick string, and the round core is just bliss!

For strings I only use Circle K and DR now, can't find anything better.

I've used a couple of sets of the EMPs (they came free with the custom fretless I ordered), and they're okay. I wouldn't put them as metallic sounding; they sounded very dark on my fretless. If given a choice, I definitely prefer Black Labels.

That said, I think you'll be very happy with the CKs on your Dolphin. They seem to really bring out the nuance of the instrument, and sound great to boot.

I have broken these in for several hours. I think maybe it is the combination of MEC electronics, the bell brass frets and the Warwick souund plus a very zingy round.

I don't mind dark necessarily, and I have always been a rounds player. It might just be a lack of warmth with these strings and that is what I'm hearing as metallic and zingy.

I went through that with my Dingwall until I put on the Circle K's. I guess I'll know in a few days whether Circle K's will solve the problem on the Dolphin as it did on the Dingwall.

I have played the Sadowsky Blue Nickels on my Sadowsky P-basses and they sounded really great.
