I do miss them...I loved those strings, but between D'Addario Prosteels and Dean Markley SR2000's, I found a happy alternative. And to be honest, I can't tell much difference if any between the Prisms and the Pro Steels.

the pro steels feel rougher to me. they have a coarser texture. the prisms were almost nickel smooth. the prosteels, to me, feel like the warwick strings.

I miss them as well. I like the Pro Steels, but still wish I had Prisms.

I too miss prisms. I just used my last 2 packages. I luckily acquired a box of these a while back, but they are no more.

I'm currently looking for stainless strings that match the prism 6 string set (PSS60-6) with a tapered low B and E. Gauge was 0.32, 0.45, 0.65, 0.80, .100, and .130 from high C to low B respectively.

Does anybody have any non Pro Steel recommendations?

Try dunlop steels. I'm a nickle guy and i was surprised how these felt and played more like Nickle than I expected. Low tension though.

I'm breaking down and trying the ProSteels on my Yamaha trb6-P. I need the bright twang when i mix in the piezos and add a touch of chorus. The tapered B allows me to get low action while still retaining it's integrity (tightness) on a 34" scale. Ordering EPS170-6 Long Scale 6-String 30-130. This set is nearly identical to the PSS60-6 Prism set in gauge and tension. The only difference is a lighter C string .030 @ 40.6 lbs, rather than the Prism C .032 @ 41.9 lbs.

I pretty much use the same core strings on my 4 strings, but I'm tempted to try out Rotosound SM66's with a new Yamaha BB1200S coming in. I'm also curious about DR Highbeams.

I'm coming off a 3 year bass hiatus and debating to stick with the tried and true products, or something new. Thanks for any more input guys.

FWIW, I tried all the DR strings (HB, SB, Ni and SS Lo-Riders, FatBeams) on my BB1200S and ended up going with the FatBeams. They had the best combination of low-end beef, high-end shine, and feel, in my opinion and for my needs at least. They were all good strings, though.

For tapers and 45-100, look at Pedullas. I am not sure if they do 6 string sets.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm going to order some new strings for BB1200S sometime this week. I just had her initial setup and some minor fretwork. Which gauge did you you use on the Fatbeams by the way? I'm looking at the DRS_MM-40 (.040, .0605, .080, .100) set. Maybe a heavier step up?

I don't know which direction I'm going to take with this bass other than I want a warmer/beefier sound than my modern sounding 6 string. I mainly dabble in prog metal/latin jazz on the 6 while I got the BB for slower stoner rock/doom metal in standard tunings.

I'm also going to get a set of Chromes ECB84 (.040, .060, .080, .100) for grins.

I use 105-85-65-45; heavier strings have more low end, but I don't know if .005" makes that much difference. Nickels are warmer than stainless steels, but I prefer SS, personally. If you want a "warmer/beefier", less "modern" sound I'd stay away from the HiBeams (though I like them for other things); the FatBeams definitely had more bottom.

I saw the thread title and it made me recollect back to the 1970's, when everyone I knew had prisms hanging in their windows. I miss those prisms.
