I'm looking for ways to prolong string life, so I'm curious.

I haven't, but I never thought about it until now. I'll be curious to see the replies.

I use fingerless wool gloves or leather bicycle gloves if it's a cold outdoor gig.

mmmmm, snuggly!!

I've played with nomex aviator gloves. It actually worked, my fingers didn't get sore and my strings were fine. I only did it just to see if I could, I've never actually gigged with gloves on.

Gloves are probably not the solution youre looking for. I'd imagine that gloves on either hand would drastically dampen your sound.

To prolong string life:

1) Always wash your hands before you play
2) Try keeping something around so you can clean your hands in between playing
3) Clean your strings with any number of safe & recommended string cleaners
4) Keep your string away from any corrosives, also, make sure your hands are not moist when playing

But most bass strings last a long time, they not as fragile as guitard strings.

How about those stretchy gloves? Might last a gig or two...

I can't for the life of me remember his name but when I was at Music Tech in Minneapolis, a player from town came in to do a Bass seminar and played with a hand puppet on his fretting hand! It was entertaining for sure.

Yes I have tried.... didn't work too well

I do have a set of gloves, well actually glove liners, that I cut the tops off of for practicing when it is really cold. I had to trim down the right thumb since the material tended to mute the E string.

Etienne Mbappe is probably who your thinking of.

There is also a local guy here in Mpls that does some really funky stuff with a mitten on. He get's the envelope going with this muting and it kicks major booty. He's one of my all time favorites and I've been lucky that I grew up in the same city.

+1000

Nix the glove idea, just remember, your fingers will always produce oil, but you can reduce that by washing your hands with a good or at least fairly good hand soap before handling and/or before each set. Also, sometimes a dirty sting is not as bad as it seems, they can sound better than new tone wise.
