I put up a couple threads at the dudepit forums and there is at least a little interest so I thought I'd ask here as well:

Is anyone interested in a sort of cross between the TI Jazz flats and the acousticores? Basically, it would be a nylon-core string with a nickel flatwound wrapping. In a short-scale 4-string set (or 5 or 6-string). Maybe long scale too if people are more interested in that.
I've been wanting something like this for my short scale acoustic bass, but it would also work for Rob Allen type basses or any other acoustic / piezo only basses. I think it would be absolutely perfect.
I've asked, and TI will do custom orders, but the minnimum order is 12-sets, and it certainly wouldn't be cheap. Probably more than $100 a set, but I don't know the exact numbers. I would pay for at least a couple sets.
I sent another e-mail to the guy at TI asking about total costs as well as the possibility of splitting the order into a couple different scale lengths (some long-scale and some short-scale). If I can get enough people interested, I'll looking into the details further.
Probably dreaming, but you never know

If you're interested PM me, I'll pass the message along, and contact your dealer, they'll call us. If you're dealer won't do it, contact us directly and we'll call up the dealer.

Only TI and LaBella have. I really have no idea what goes into making custom strings, but I'm guessing that DR doesn't have the required materials or tools for it.
But if you want to check with them, I'm definitely 100% interested.
A 6-string set of Nylon-Core strings with a Nickel Flatwound wrapping. Or even a black nylon tapewound wrapping, though DR hasn't done any of those either.

We could make a nylon core and use the .0003" black coating on the strings. We can do whatever you want, as long as we make the gauge. We make unwound bass strings up to .020 gauge I think, take that into effect, and not sure offhand what the wound gauges are, but it should be somewhere around there up to .145.

The Rotosound RS88s or Labellas are much better choices. |

The Rotosound RS88s or Labellas are much better choices. | Ok...that's your opinion. I had the Rotosound tapewounds on my acoustic bass for a very short while and I thought they were terrible. Sounded really plasticy and too dead and thumpy. Too high tension as well.
I think the acousticores sound and feel amazing. They're almost perfect to me. I'm using an EAGC set, with the top two tuned down to standard EADG. I love the low tension. Wouldn't have it any other way
Why do people always think that low-tension is such a bad thing. I hate high-tension strings. Don't like the way they feel, or sound in this case.

Low tension strings feel like playing rubber to me. Blech. But if that's what you like, that's great. No sarcasm here. That's waht makes the world go around - we all have preferences.
The nylon tapewound RS88 set is an amazing set of strings. Much like I wouldn't discount your experuience with the Acousticores, I left 'em on my TUrner when I had 'em until I couldn't stand it anymore. I gave 'em a shot. They sucked @$$ in my opinion. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
