According to your profile, you're using a 15W bass amp with an 8" speaker. That could be the issue.

So playing with a bigger amp would give me a better quality sound?

Well, bigger doesn't always mean better, but a good cabinet with quality speakers and enough physical volume for those speakers or properly tuned porting, and a strong bass amp to drive it can help deliver the punch desired.

Man, that was a poorly structured sentence.

Other than the amp, I might suggest dean markley blue steels. I have them on my Vintage Squire and I play lots of punk. Actually to be honest, they are a very versatile sting.

Blue steels are my second favorite right after DR Highbeams. They are a little pricey but IMO worth it. Nice and bright punchy and easy on the fingers. I would say that DRs last longer than Blue Steels but Blue Steels are cheaper.

Get yourself an Ashdown combo or maybe a Peavey. They are both good amps and affordable. You could probably get something around 150-200 watts for less than 300, used.

As far as strings, get some D'addario steels. They're pretty affordable, sound good and last for a while.
