Question Anyone tried this?

So today I have started an experiment...I coated my own set of new strings with RustOleum clear enamel...I took a set of fender 7250's...nice nickel plated strings that have a little more growl and grunt and are kind of dry sounding(not as ringy?)to my ears...only problem with them are they are some of the fastest decaying or deteriorating strings out there. I coated the E and D strings, and left the A and G strings uncoated to have a comparison tone. I uncoiled the strings and cleaned them with Isopropyl alcohol and hung them from an old A string and sprayed them lightly...I let them dry and tuned them up....they don't feel sticky or any different, and my hope is if the enamel wears off on the tops, it will stay in between where the humidity can get to the core...Has anyone gone down this road before?
