| I tried a set once..........I had a problem with them sounding like they had a built-in chorus pedal, especially on the B and E strings. Sounded kinda warbly. It actually sounded kinda cool, but then you couldn't switch it off so it was a problem. I'm not sure of the cause, but I suspect that it's because the tapered portion of the string is pretty long - longer than most taper cores. So the spot where the string goes from tapered to normal gauge was kinda close to my bridge pickup.
I think DR has said that their taper cores are really designed to be used on string-through body basses. So if you've got a string through body bass, you probably won't have this problem. Or if your basses bridge is designed in a way that puts a lot of string behind the saddle (Kahler).
But then, regardless of the brand, I've always had intonation problems with taper cores, the few times I've tried 'em. I only tried the DR taper cores 'cause I was in a pinch and they were available. I usually use regular DR's in various flavors depending on the bass - Hi Beams, Lo Riders, Fat Beams - and I love 'em.
