Anyone try Optima Gold string?

Sign in to disble this ad
Was wondering have anyone try Optima Gold String before?

https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/prod...d_bass_strings

I'm currently using Marcus Miller DR string on my corvette. So was wondering what type of sound will these strings offer compare to the one i'm using now.

I dunno about MM DR's, but Optima Golds are now my fave rounds, awesome tone, growly and agressive, yet smooth if I take my ease rather than diggin' in.
Nothing else feel's like 'em, last for ages, and look sweet too!

High tension, btw.

Brilliant tone, mids and highs are never harsh, lows are crystal clear and they bring out the nastiess growl from my MTD 635, although they are gold plated they do wear on frets a little more than stainless steel. Their flatwounds are not that plesant sounding to my ears on my Citron AE5 fretless. They lack sustain and the tone is dark (flat) and dull and I prefer LaBella taped nylons over the Optima flats.

I always try to find out what string are those when i watch John bass solo on the video.

Those gold string look and sound good. My warwick corvette uses gold hardware so the string will suits the appearance too apart from the sound.

I like them. The highs on the rounds are not as harsh as stainless can be. They are a grippy string though, feel is similar to phosphor bronze but not as rough. Look super with gold hardware and last forever.

Use nothing but 'em... (well, ok, I have Rotosound Flats on one of my P basses..)

For me they sound, feel and look perfect, Im gonna have serious problems with the looks of my basses if I went back to "regular" strings again

I'd just wish they would make their 5er sets in more gauges than one, I would have liked the B string a little thighter, And I usualy tune it up to C.... Maby I should send em a mail on that..

Sent Optima a mail today about heavier gauges on the 5er set, I wonder if anyone else also will be intrested in that? Currently they only carry one set with a .125 B string, and I want atleast a .135 string... I play alot in C, and find the .125 string to be a little loose.

I'd dig that, I like heavy B's, though I usually prefer flat B's, I'd take a shot for Optima.
