Im wanting a thicker sound on my G string and would like more tension than my 45-105. I might go with something like 50-105 and buy the strings individually. Anyone here play with 50-110 and doesn't detune? How does it sound/feel? And would would be two good sizes for A and D if I went with 50-105... |

They probably make a 4 sring set the same way...I get them from a bass only store called Low Down Sound in Michigan www.lowdownsound.com

| | | | If you/your bass can handle the tension 50-110 will sound awesome |

I actually only started using them after accidentally picking the wrong gauge strings way back in the begining (Could it be 7 years ago already?) on my Epiphone bass. I recently switched to the lighter .45's and I don't think I want to go back. (I like the slack. ) |

The top strings are tight and snappy, the E and A are a little softer feeling (nice for fingerstyle) and the B is fat and solid. Now that I'm used to it I don't even notice the transition. |

If properly set up, these not only SOUND much better, especially on the sometimes anemic G, but you can play with a lower action and less buzzing because the strings are stiffer. |

| | | | I use the Ernie Ball power slinkies, gets rid of that annoying flappyness you get if you play with a pick on lighter gauges.
You get used to it, difficult at first if you do bends a lot, but it's not too bad

I use them on my Hwy 1 Jazz....I'm now detuned though...but my action was really low with them on. You might have to cut a new nut for that gauge though. I broke my nut in half with a set of EB Power Slinky (.50-.110). |

It does make it feel easier to cop a Prestia type groove since lighter G strings do seem to slip away on the fast 16ths
1.Rotosound S.H. Flats 50-75-90-110 on my 82' Gibson Victory
2.EB POWER slinky roundwound 55-75-90-110 on my gsr200
Both are in stadard eadg tuning and both sound great out of the package.
The only Light Guage I use are D'adds PROSTEELS on my OLP mm wannabe for another playing style... THumBs Up
Just make sure to readjust your trussrod to accomodate heavier string sets. |

I did run one bass BEAD for a while, then I used the bottom four strings of a five string set. Sounded great. |

Both sound great to my ears. The A is .090 for DR and .095 for GHS, and the D is .070 for DR and GHS. My G&L L-2000 has an indestructible neck; only needed a 1/2 turn on the truss rod the first time I switched off of 'standard' guage strings. I haven't looked, but I would love if Rotosound made the Swing Bass in these guages.

E - 110
A - 80
D - 60
G - 45
That gives me a very even tension across the board ranging from 44-46 lbs.
Good luck finding those gauges in a set, I couldn't. You'll most likely have to go the singles route. |

Also, will they damage the nut? I was using the same brand in the 45 to 105 range, and I only play finger style. The G string just seemed to sound a bit to wimpy for me. Thanks for any info from anyone.

I wanted a completely different feel than the LaBella tapewounds I usually use and I sure got it. So far I am liking the high tension. I hope the neck holds up to it OK, I had to put a 3/4 turn on the truss rod to get the relief right!
Off topic: this bass sounds great and plays like a dream. I've never seen a TR series Ibby in person. They must not have made many of them. It's a '94 with an ash body and maple neck - a passive P/J pickup arrangement. It has a massive thick tone with the KnuckleHeads on it.
