Anyone use Snarling Dogs strings?

They seem to be pretty inexpensive. I'm curious to try them and cannot find any info on them. If you have tried them, what are your thoughts?

I used them for a while. They didn't change my life or anything, but they were perfectly fine strings.

They're made in Korea to meet the pricepoint.

A local music store was carrying them in three-packs for really cheap, and they were my guage in nickel so I figured I'd try them out. I liked them just fine. I think I must have used them for two or three years.

That was a few years ago, and I can't remember who I was buying them from, but if I saw the same deal again I wouldn't hesitate to get some more. They sounded even to me and I never had intonation problems with them.

They used to be a big name back in the mid 90's, even made a few effects pedals. Haven't seen or heard of them in years.

I used to play Snarling dog Rin 10-10's on my electric guitar, I was not the bassist for that band but the bassist switched to the dogs as well and loved them. These days I am pretty stuck on Ernie Ball strings for round wound but if I cam across the dogs I think I would have to give them a spin.

They are but impossible to find. For example right now I can only find one set of bass strings on Ebay even though they still actively make the strings. On a side note I would love to try their Bootzilla wah+fuzz pedal sometime. Seems like a real winner to me at the price point it is at.

$11.06 a set from just strings.com. Not a great selection, all nickels, but what the heck, I may try some.

I tried them when they first came out and they were dead in about 2 weeks of playing. Ok sounding, nothing spectacular.

OK, here is the deal as far as my first hand experience. They used to be killer strings. I first used them back in 1996 when a local music store carried them for a short time before that store went out of business. I loved them! They sounded deeper than the Peavey bass strings I had been using. At that time I believe the Snarling Dogs were made in the USA. So not having them available locally I went back to using Peaveys and eventually DR Lo-Riders. Well, lately I've been broke so I had to find some cheaper strings than the DRs and I thought about the Snarling Dogs. I found them online and they were dirt cheap so I ordered three sets. THESE ARE NOT THE SAME AS THE SNARLING DOGS I USED PREVIOUSLY!!!! Now they are cheap junk. It doesn't surprise me to hear that they are now made in Korea. That would explain the price point/loss of quality issue. I can't find any company info about them online. Funny, they used to be advertised quite heavily in Guitar World magazine back when I first tried them. They also had red cloth wrappings at both ends of the strings too. Now they're just bare. The last set I've used has an odd kink in the winding towards the ball of the A string. It also had a weird chorusing type effect and the string doesn't want to tune properly. Both of those issues are likely related to the winding kink. If I were you I would avoid these strings if you can afford something better. Hell, buy some Peaveys. They're decent. But if you can afford it, give DR Strings a chance. I love 'em!

I agree with this for sure...DR is it. But, some folks just love cheap strings!

GHS Bassics are the best cheap strings I've found. $11.99 at Bass Strings Online. Even cheaper once you register as a TB user and get your VIP discount. And...made in the USA! They're not DR, but they're $12 and they're made in Michigan...which, as an Ohio State fan, I hate to promote!
