| | | | Anything better than Fender 7250ML for passive Jazz? (rock/fingerstyle funk)

I've been playing my MIM Jazz with the stock strings (Fender 7250ML (nickelplated steel)) for a long time, I'm wondering what else I might try that would give me a decent sound for rock and fingerstyle funk stuff (I also slap(very rarely)). I do like the feel of the nickel versus steel.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to try for this? Doing some quick forum searching, D'Addario XLs and Ernie Ball Slinkys seem to be the most recommended strings for this application, anyone have further advice? |

| | | | I like D'Addario XLs and DR Hi-beams. If you're looking for something really affordable, I've found the Hartke strings have very much the same sound and feel as the D'Addarios. |

| | | | I will probably try the D'Addarios. The DR Hi-Beams are stainless steel right? I kind of like the rounder sound of nickelwound/plated. Budget is not a huge concern (I don't slap much and thus don't need to be changing strings really often to retain that mega-brightness), I just wanted to know what my nickelwound/plated options were. |

Fender makes excellent strings which are underappreciated in my opinion because we associate them with badly setup guitars in shops. |

My absolute favorite metal wound strings are the Fender nickel plated steel Super Bass strings. I've had them on many different basses over the years, in different guages and both the four and five string styles, and I love them love them love them. They sound fantastic, feel very balanced, and consistently last a very long time.
IMO, the answer to your quesiton is "no".
But the only way to find out what you like the best is to try other strings!

| | | | I think I would like to try some different string types and see how that goes. Now I just need to decide if i want to order DR Sunbeams or DR Nickel Lo-riders... hmm.. maybe I'll make a separate thread.. |

Do you like high tension (tight feel) or perfer lower tension (bend more easily)?
If you prefer high tension go with Lo-Riders ni.
If you prefer low tension, go with Sunbeams. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
