Actually I was hoping any of you guys had any idea on what to do with broken strings. Now don't get my wrong I've given used (and some new) string to less fortunate bassist but I just think it's a waste throwing away broken strings as much as they cost. So I was just curious if anyone had any idea on what to do/make with them
-thanks you |

| | | You can give electricity to it and grill some beef Its a joke , interesting question , may be you can construct a half scale bass and use broken strings there . There are excellent videos about diy instruments at utube. |

A friend (Amy of the band Clatter) shipped the first pressing of their debut CD with bracelets made from bass strings.
I used to collect the ball ends and threaded them up. I made a necklace.

| | | | knuckle head , i learned something from your link , detuning , tuning the instrument low as possible.
you can use your half size strings to construct a bass half the size with thick strings for detuning . |

I cut off the ball end as well as the curly stuff made by the tuner. I then make a loop around the wrist, then i twist the extra stuff around the original loop until i run out of string. I repeat with all the strings in that set. Since i change the whole set when one string breaks, and my strings usually break at the bridge, i have a lot of material to work with.

Then sell it back to the manufacturer. Imagine, if everybody did this with their old strings, you could start your own brand of strings.
