Ashbory Strings

Has anyone ever tried stringing an Ashbory with any other type of string? Maybe a gut string, tapewound nylon strings or strings for that Kala U-Bass? Just wondering

Hi,

I have a set of Road Toad Pahoehoe strings (low tension set) on my Ashbory. They are made of polyurethane and are far more durable, less sticky and stay in tune better than the Ashbory silicone strings. Here's a link:

+1 on the Pahoehoe strings. They're great!

Do Pahoehoe strings fit directly on the Ashbory without any modifications to bridge or tuner ends?

You might have to clip the ball ends off and tie in knots before installing them on your Ashbory. The will also give your bass a slightly different sound. They won't notoriously snap off or break like the stock strings that come with the Ashborys. Same strings used on Kala u Basses. Acquila also has a set out to fit both Kalas and Ashborys, which will work if you don't mind white strings (Kalas are black).
