Attn: Breedlove owners looking for flatwounds...

One of the (many) FUDs spread around about acoustic bass guitars is that bronze strings are the only way to go for acoustic volume.

I've been working on pairing the right strings to my Breedlove ABG, and while the standard issue bronze strings are very good, these medium scale Chromes are louder and more focussed to my ear. If you are looking to experiment I would recommend giving them a try. They did take a few hours of playing to settle in.

Funny thing is, I don't like Chromes at all on electric. But I suspected the tonal aspects I didn't like on electric would work on the acoustic and it was a rare case of me being right! If anybody else tries/has tried this, let me know your thoughts.

One thing to note: that the silk needs to be entirely removed at both ends of the E string to get it through the bridge. Otherwise the medium scale length is a perfect fit.

Hope you like them!

I've been using a piece of foam under the strings at the bridge too. Completely counterintuitive when you're going for volume, but I found it helps with note definition when you're playing with other acoustic instruments.

I think that the thread title of Onestring is a good way to put it.
If you could get all the Experiments carried out with string types
And mods needed,it would make for some good reading!
There must be some great sounding Bpp's over your side of the pond,
Maybe this side too!?
I'm waiting for my DadChromes, and made sure it was The 81M,
As there's a few sets here..oh yea..the original Dads ARE great strings.....
I gave em too little time wich they obviously need:I set them
To DGCF and used a bit more aggressive fingerpower(left AND right)
Last nite...aint they got good volume......and I Like Fingernoise I like to USE it to good effect...!seems more honest to me,but there's times when
I DON'T want that, just pure Tone, and this is where my flats will
Lead me...!yea,I agree its all inthe hands of the individual, just too many factors to throw in,and so its good to keep in mind WHY we do
This in the first place, and that there's millions of string adventures to discover,so here I shall BEGIN!...anyone got the FRETLESS model they'd like to send me??!! Eame
