B String on Sadowsky SS

Sign in to disble this ad
I have Sadowsky SS on my 5 string, E to G sound great but the B seems muddy and unfocussed. Anyone know if there is a difference between the B's on Sadowsky long and regular scale strings? Also, I like the soft tension of the string and the tone, are there any other strings out there similar in tone and tension with a more fucussed B?

Thanks,

Just to ask the question, which 5 sting bass do you have them strung on?

Interesting.... I have used Sadowsky strings on every kind of basses and I think the B is one of the best on the market.... There's something wrong....
At the bridge, push down the string right in front the saddle to make the angle "sharp" and do the same at the nut. I saw a lot of guys (students) complaining about their "B" string sounding bad and after a quick check and reinstall the string properly, the problem was gone.... it could also be a bad string....
What instrument? How old are the strings...

The strings are new and there on a Valenti 35 scale 5 string (Killer Bass), let me add that I normally use DR Lowriders that have little more tension on most of my basses including my Sadowsky R5 24. But I really like the the softness and the bouncy feel of the Sadowsky's, but slapping on the B just seems a little broad sounding to me. Therefore my question about thier long scale series B string maybe sounding more focussed with the same feel. Another question, are DR Hi Beams or Fat Beams in same ball park?
Thxs

Sadowsky and Pedulla's strings are made by La Bella. They are very good strings with similar great sounding B's. You might just have a defective string. Contact Sadowsky or La Bella and let them know. They'll probably ask you to send the defective string back to them. Good luck.

I've never had a problem with Sadowsky strings. I particularly like the B string because it's tapered. On that note, were you using a non-tapered string set before switching to Sadowsky? Have you carefully checked intonation and string height since installing the Sadowsky strings?

Yes I have checked all that, it may just come down to a bad string. I really like Roger's strings, I've used his nickel set before and did't have an issue, the B sounded fine. I think I'm going to order a long scale set and see what happens. I'll post back later.

Thanks all for your input and advice it's appreciated.

I've got my order in for 2 sets of long scale 5's, I should have them no later than Friday.

I know the old Sad strings were Labellas but aren't the new ones made by Richard Cocco?

I'm no expert. I don't even use those strings anymore. I believe Richard Cocco and La Bella strings come out of the same factory in Newburgh New York.

The bottom line is, it sounds like he's got a defective string that will be replaced under warranty.

Sadowsky's current packaging states that they are made by R Cocco.

I got my new Sadowsky strings today and it was indeed a bad B, I tried the B's from both packs and were thick, solid and focused sounding. Thanks maurilio and everyone who posted for help and confirmation.

Glad it is good now.

Sadowsky B string is #1 in my opinion.
