If you want more of a mid scooped sound and strings long enough to string them through the body, go for DR Hi-Beams. They're super bright and punchy, and DR's are usually extremely long making them easy to string through the body.

DR's also last for what seems forever. I have a set that's easily 4 months old and saw a lot of playing. I put them off to the side and restrung a bass with them a couple days ago, and they're just as bright and punchy as they've always been.

I used a set of DR Hi-Beams for a few months on one of my basses, and put them off to the side for a while because I wanted to try something else on it.

I just strung up another bass with the old Hi-Beams, and they're still as punchy and bright as they've ever been. So to answer your question, 4 weeks is nothing on DR strings.

They'll work fine with a pick. If you get Black Beauties, you'll take the black finish off after a while in the area you play with a pick. Don't let that discourage you though, I've also had a bunch of the finish come off them from finger picking as well, but more so after months of playing on them, and it didn't affect the tone at all.
