"Back" to R. Cocco

I used to use R. Cocco's about 12 years ago? 15? Seems like forever. Anyway, Rudy's would always have 'em in stock and I just loved the sound and feel.

So R. Cocco dies, and the company disappears. I switch to DR. Ok, but not the same. I "discover" Fender 7150 pure nickels and I've used 'em for about 9 years (on my Jackson USA and Carvin Fretless).

I get a new Fender Custom Classic Jazz bass, and the 7150's feel awful! I have no idea how and why they mismatch, but there it is: not a good fit.

Gamble time: I buy three sets of new generation R. Cocco Nickels from Bass Central, throw 'em on the Fender and I'm transported back!! Holy Time Machine, Batman! Got that FEEL. Great fat 'n' clear tone. Did I mention FEEL?? Slightly less tension than the 7150s (which is a good thing). Smoother, more refined under my fingers. But most importantly, they're very quick to speak and fully FUNK-tional! My Jazz bass sounds more like a Jazz bass than with the Fender strings. Go figure.

I play 95% finger-style at the bridge pickup, so they gotta be juicy -- and they are. I've practiced and rehearsed with 'em -- lotta r&b, pop, rock, real funk, and also some jazz. No gigs yet. My fingers are happy. My ears are happy. My fellow musicians are happy.

I'm happy.

Oh yeah: 45 - 65 - 80 - 100
