When I found these strings it was like I had found the Holy Grail! Unfortunately, the 3 sets that I've owned have unwound on me for no apparent reason. The problem happened on 2 different basses within a period of 2 months. And if you know these strings, you know how expensive they are. The first time it happened, I thought it was just bad luck. The D string unwound in the middle of the string. Wasn't touching any metal or anything (so not a burr problem). Then I used a different type of string for a while. Didn't like them, so took a chance and bought another set of Pyramid Golds. Again, different string, same problem. But this time it did it while sitting in the case. I waited another year, thinking that maybe it was a bad batch. Tried a new set a couple months ago, and BAM! Another string unwound, but this time, different bass and hanging from my wall ( have guitar mounts ).
I am so upset because these are the best sounding strings in the world to my ear. Has anyone had the same experience with these strings? Also, does anyone know a string that may be similar? These are polished nickle flats. They are just beautiful to play and beautiful to hear. How can something so good be so flawed??? |

| | | Are they the 24 K gold strings? I had a set and loved them. I got them from a seller on e bay GaryGear. Best strings I ever owned over a year on the bass and still sounded like brand new . My only regret is I should have saved them and put them on my JAzz |

I don't see any 24k. |

I have nothing against their service; it's great! But... I did contact them after a string broke after the first month and they sent me a whole new pack. Then, after 2 months, a string from that set broke, and I wasn't even playing (I also play very lightly anyway).
It's not about the service, it's about fear of breaking a string while on stage. I can't rely on them anymore, unfortunately. |

I switched them for a set of TI Jazz Flats (P Bass) so the difference in tension was definitely noticeable. Had to tweak the trussrod and do a quick set up.
They sound great right out of the package--will gig them tomorrow night.
Hope I have better luck than you did.
Did you contact the manufacturer directly or did you go through a distributor? (I bought mine through Strings and Beyond). |

I've had a Pyramid Gold set on my P-bass for 2 years, 20-30 gigs, daily practice (1-2 hrs), recording sessions and they're still in top shape (actually, they keep getting better). Also have had a Pyramid Gold short-scale set on my Hofner Icon for 11 months, and they're fine, too.

What makes a string unwind? I'm talking D string from the center. |

I use them on my RIC 4003. No burrs, and the unwind in the middle even when it's sitting in the case. Ugh!
