Bad set of Blue Steels?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a set of Blue Steels from guitar center, when I take off my old strings and put the blues on, I notice that the D string and the G string are the exact same size. Going from the A to the D makes the D feel like a guitar string. It also seems that the D string isn't long enough, the place where the winding starts becoming more spread out near the top came all the way back to the Nut. I'm really starting to thing that I got two G strings. When I opened the box, the the packets that the strings in were upside down, if that makes sense. Is this normal? I usually buy roto 66's or D'addario pro steels, and i've never really encountered anything like this before.

sounds like the work of a mischievous toddler and an idiot GC worker. should be able to bring them back and explain the situation.

Sounds like you had a booboo, can you take it back to GC for a refund?? I would pay to see the employee's face when you tell him/her you got two g-strings with your string set

Well the strings were sealed so the it must have happened at the factory. I'm not sure if GC will return it though, they'll probably make me go through Dean Markley or pay some sort of restocking fee or something. I think I'll try to get in touch with Dean Markley. First I thought it was supposed to be like that, but its pretty bad, theres all this buzz from rattling around with all the extra space in the nut.

I've had nothing but problems with Dean Markley strings... but that being said, their customer service is pretty good, if you contact them they'll send you a replacement string. I just got tired of having to contact them with problems.

I just had a problem with a set of Blue Steels and I emailed them via their contact form on their site. So far I havent heard anything back from them and its been a few days. If you do get in touch with them let me know how you did it.

little update for you guys. I called guitar center and told them what happened. They ended up just giving me a D'addario nickel string in the correct gage. Hopefully the sound wont be too different. I think I'm going to stick with rotos or try something else, the tone of the blue steels just isn't really doing anything for me. Thanks for the help and input guys.

I tried a set of Blue Steels recently. They lasted about a week - and my strings usually last a long time, I have generally dry hands.

Back to DR, thanks.

Use to love Blue Steels but they seem to have change and now It's the DR.

I just put a set on my Casady, (that I finally have back in my hot little hands!!)... Used to string them on this bass years ago, and I gotta agree... These seem way different... Grittier somehow... I'm not a DR fan, but I did get a set of Chromes at the same time... Forethought!

FWIW, whenever I have had to return some accessory at GC, (strings, straps, stands, etc.), there's never been an issue. They've always exchanged...
