Basic String Question

Sign in to disble this ad
G"day Everyone,

Been a month since my last post..and i was thinking for that month bout this question. JUST REMEMEBERD TB is there for me.

So is it true that u need to change your bass strings every year or 6 months? Cause my bass teacher said my strings sound a bit dead.....and then i dont know whaat strings to get...

I thinking of Ernie Ball Super Slinkey Strings. I have a fender signature mike dirnt precision bass. So please advice?

Cheers, Ben.

There's no timeline. But, if your teacher thinks it's time, that's a good hint. As strings die they lose treble and brightness in the tone. Sometimes they'll corrode.

If you're looking for opinions, you'll find many. Try the Ernie Balls. If you don't like they way they sound and/or feel then try another brand next time. Did you like the strings that came on the bass (if you bought it new)? Check out the Fender site to see what strings they outfit that modle with at the factory.

It's a choice as individual as boxers vs. briefs, jockey vs. fruit of the loom,............well, you get it.

Tons of great (and not so great) info here on TB, just do a little surfing and you'll find more than you can read in a day.

For what it's worth, I'll take fresh strings over dead ones always, but I'm sure there's a lot of folks here that like the "dead string thump" as well.

I am having good luck with Dean Markley Blue Steel. They seem to have good life and a nice sound.

Funny you should mention that, as I have Blue Steels on everything. In fact, here's a thread I posted in yesterday with that info: what is your Favorite 5 string strings?

the Dirnt probably came with 7250's, either M (45-105) or ML (45-105) ... if you liked them, you may like like EB Super Slinky's ... they can be quite different ... its always good to experiement though, just dont cut the old ones off, incasse you dont care for what you get ... If I may hi-jack your thread a bit ... ... how do you like the Dirnt?? have you weighed it by chance?? any issues with the neck (gloss or satin finish)?? ... have you played other precisions, and if so, how would you compare it?? ... thanks !!
