Smile bass strings help

Sign in to disble this ad
hi i am a beginner bassist. i have been playing for about two years and i have been using the same brand of strings for a while and i was wondering if anyone could give me a suggestion on some good quality bass strings. i have both a 5-string and a 4-string both which have a 34 inch scale. i play alot of heavy metal and black metal so any strings that could fit to play in those categories would be great.

thanks.

Strings are kind of a personal thing. People will give you lots of recommendations but it really comes down to experimenting until you find something that sounds good on your basses. You may find that both of your basses really sound the best with different brands/gauges/types (nickle/steel/flat/round/half-round) of strings. I personally like DR Hi-Beams and that's usually the first thing I try on a bass.

Hey, man... +1 to DR High Beams. They're quickly turning into my go-to strings when I'm feeling roundwound.

DR strings

I just put Hi Beams on my Warwick and was using DR Low Riders. Both seem to be very good Stainless Steel strings.
I am now looking for strings with a thicker G and D - maybe .055 on the G and .075 on the D.

Im playing blues, country, and rock. Very little slap style.

I would also like to hear from others on possibilities.

Dave

I've never used those but I have tried the black beauties. The coating tends to flake off after you've used them for a bit. Not as bright sounding as Hi-Beams either. I didn't really care for them.
