| If the scale length equals the other basses you've got, then it's not due to extra tension. It might be caused by a rough picking style, but that's not very likely. Another possibility could be the pickup(s). If their output is low, compared to the other basses, the strings may appear 'older' a little earlier. The distance between strings and pup(s) may be reduced to create more output with a little more highs. Further thinking brings me back to the strings themselves. Is there any possibility that they are twisted, between bridge and nut? If so, it won't do them any good.
