BEAD on 4 sting bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying to fit a B string on my 4 string bass, but the wire at the end of the string doesn't seem to fit. I wondered if that wire could be remove, and if i would damage it trying to force it in. Those are d'addario flatwound strings, they have some sort of wire wrapping on both ends, and the big string doesnt fit near the bridge, the wrapping is too big. Id have to push it about an inch further for it to fit, of id have to use a Dremel on my bridge (its a cheap bridge btw, so i dont mind).

what i have in mind is to put the B string, tune it to C, then the A string tuned to G, the D tuned to D and G to A to have a cello tuning.

You may have to enlarge the holes in the bridge with a small file.
Trying to cut or compress the string will probably just end up with broken strings.

You might also try a DGCF tuning.

The string fits in, its only the wrapping at the end that doesnt fit

And Ric : DGCF is simply a whole step down, isnt it? What i want to do is to have all my string tuned with a major fifth interval. But since tuning an E string down to C, i have to use the big string

You will have to dremel it open. Or find a different string. Some work, some don't. The b on chrome flats (med) will just barely fit a fender bridge. I cut the wrapping off and it was good.

my question is : can the wrapping be cut?

I have somewhat damaged it trying to fit it in (even after a couple of minutes dremeling) Now it is in place, but id love to know if i can remove the stupid wrapping (those are d,addario strings, i dont know if this wrapping is important or not)
