Question BEAD and AEAD... suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone!

I have a Fender J-Bass and a Schack Unique, both 4-string and BEAD tuned. Some tracks require A, so I drop AEAD.
Currently I use DR DDT 65-125.
If you have any suggestions about other (4-string) sets that can "hold" this tuning please share with me.
If this helps I play with a pick... and lots of attack!

Thx!

Going between B and A? I'd recommend looking at Circle K Strings.

This set in particular:
4 String Set - Balanced Standard 142

Circle K Strings

Other than that, you might want to try something with a thicker B, as dropping to A will benefit from having a higher gauge string. You might also want to try the DDT set but throwing in a .135B instead of using the .125.

Just my 2c

The .135 B from the DR DDT set can DEFINITELY hold up to a low A. I have one on an extra 5-string which is set up 1/2 step lower, but sometimes I drop the low string from Bb to Ab and it does pretty good even at Ab. I have also tried tuning the whole bass down one whole step and it does very well. As good as something like Circle K...not sure, I've never bitten the bullet on those. But, with a proper setup, I think the heaviest DDTs will do OK for you. However, I don't believe the .135 is available in a 4-string set.

FYI - This is the set I am using: DR Strings Electric Bass Guitar Drop Down Tuning 5-String, .055 - .135, DDT5-55

At least a .135 for the B / A, that will be barely tight enough at A.

A .145 would work better with your aggressive technique. D'Addario .145s are excellent strings.
