Beginner looking for new strings

I just broke my A string last night. I bought my bass used and didnt replace the strings at first cuase i am just learning though since now i need new strings what should i get, i want some thats easy to play and has a nice rock sound to it. And i know niothing about strings really.

I would recommend D'Addario XL 170s. They are good versatile strings and not too expensive. Also, many players are familiar with them, so if you don't care for them, you can tell us what you don't like, and we can point you in the right direction for your next set...

get some fender 9050s the 105-55 set, they won't break.

I ended up getting Rotosound swing bass 66 heavy gauge (50-110)

Thats what the guy at the store recommened so i said what the hell. Im trying them out. But already huge difference from the old crappy strings that came with the bass

GHS boomers age good, but I'd try DR Sunbeams or DR Fat Beams 40-100s. I'd stay away from 45-105 stings until your hands get stronger, but if you de-tune you will need 105s.

Good call, Jamesblue. I was about to recommend some Knucklehead "Chunky"s, but those have a .120 E string. So, for rock, use the Roto's or Blue Steels.

I've found that Boomers don't keep their tone for too long.
