Question Best bass string websites?

Sign in to disble this ad
What is the best website to purchase bass strings at a good price? None of the local music stores here in Portland, OR. stock any sort of decent selection for bassists. It's really disappointing! These local retailers must have drummers or guitarists ordering their string stock. I'm not looking for any specialty items, just standard 40-100 gauge stainless steel bass strings. I've done some research and not found any prices worth ordering. Where do you get the best deals on bass strings?

www.webstrings.com

I used their strings for my guitars for a year or so. Nice strings, and great customer service. I've not tried their bass strings, however.

My man, you have the same issue I do. I use the same gauge as yo (but with low B of .120) .40-.120. I use DR Hi-Beam LR5 40. I live in the SF Bay area (actually hollister - work in San Jose) So, I have gone to 2 GCs and every large shop in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Gilroy and Monterey and not a single shop carries this gauge. So, I have resorted to either buying multiple sets from www.juststrings.com or www.stringthis.com

Then the other problem is not too many string manufacturers make this gauge,

They have what we use. Man, I wish I could get a DR string endorsement or something.

I've only bought from them once, but www.Juststrings.com was a pleasant buying experience.

They had the strings I wanted, and couldn't find in any store.

I ordered them on a Saturday night, and the strings were in my mailbox on Wednesday.

I've given up on buying bass strings in stores; little selection and a take it or leave it attitude from the employees.

I like juststrings.com but they charge $5.00 for shipping a set of strings...while it only cost $1.93

Haven't come across webstrings.com but what do you guys think of their strings? I use Slinky 45-130 and notice that their nickel set is the same gauges (pretty sure) of 45-65-80-100-130 but their price is $12.99 a set (unlike the $20 I'm used to) and free shipping for over $50. Worth it?

I use juststrings.com as well for the same reasons - no selection. If you order a few sets at a time, the shipping works out to about the same as tax would if you bought them in the store.

Thanks! So many quick responses. Doesn't it tic you off when these retailers try to charge $40 dollars for a 4 string set of bass strings? I just laugh out loud at them!

Depending on what kind of strings you use, www.theperfectbass.com has some great prices on strings. If you put talkbass in the promotional code box in the cart it takes off a discount.

eBay.

I just bought 23 sets of Ernie Ball 4 string Regular Slinkys for about $200USD.

Just over $8.00 per set and even cheaper after I sell a bunch of them (also on eBay) for $15 or so.
