Best half round sets

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a set of 5 string extra long scale for my standard tuned peavey grind and a 4 string set for my drop B tuned ibanez srx590 bass. I'd like both sets to be half round although I would be okay with a roundwound B string.

I looked on circle k's website and didn't see anything half round so any ideas for drop B half rounds would be awesome. (i'd prefer to stay away from buying a 4 string set and throwing out a string; although I will if I have to).

Let me know what your recommend.

Look at Ebay- find a seller who deals in D'addario's & search their items for sale in their eBay STORE. I found a 5 string set of Half rounds which worked superbly. Lotta different guages available too

I need extra long scale string though because my bass has through body stringing.

Those basses are 34" scale right? If that's the case, there should be no reason for extra long scale strings.

D'addario long scales are about 1/4" too short

Ken Smith Compressors should do the trick, as far as I know all Smith strings have 38" of winding.

OP, exactly what is your drop-B tuning? Is it B-F#-B-E?

Yes it is. I most recently bought single d'addario rounds somewhere around 130, 90, 70, 50. (Based on circle k drop tune gauges)

Correct on the Compressors. GHS pressurewounds (similar strings) are wound extra long as well-longer than standard Boomers are.
