Best Rotos for an Epi Thunderbird?

Which of these Rotosound flats fit the Thunderbird best:

I don't want to adjust the nut, or worry about ridiculously high tension, so which is best?

You shouldn't have to adjust the nut. Most basses typically take a 45-105 set. So you'd probably want the RS77LD set.

Now the Jazz flats and the Trubass are totally different animals. The Trubass are super thumpy. The Jazz flats are very bright and snappy when you get them but mellow out very quickly and don't ever become thumpy. They're designed to sound like an upright bass in a jazz setting.

Hmm, did a little more research and found the D'Addario chromes might suit me better.

Which of these might work best with the Thunderbird?

If you listen to dead Rotosound flats, it does a good upright imitation, and is ideal for jazz lines due to its warm mellow-ness.

Hope that made sense.

I am sorry but I have never heard any string that can make an Electric Bass Guitar sound like an Upright Bass. If you are saying mellow and thumpy, yes,Upright sound ,no..I just don't hear it.

Have you heard dead roto flats? It does a passable upright imitation on my P and people have asked, in regards to the recordings, if I'm playing upright on them. (I also play upright :-p) and I didn't say it was a perfect upright imitation. The string was originally designed for electric bassists in jazz groups to approximate the sound of an upright. Thats sorta why they named it the jazz flat.

Ya, I used to use them on a P-Bass. Sounded like a P-Bass with Brite Flatwounds at first and then changed into a P-Bass with dull flats. Never sounded like an Upright to me. I also play Upright. "Jazz Flatwound" is just a name. Bass players used (and still do) flats when Rotosound started making Electric Bass strings. Peace

A friend of mine was playing Bass for Nancy Wilson and he used a P-Bass with La Bella Tape Wounds on a couple of gigs with her. That was about as close to an Upright sound I have ever heard out of a P-Bass.
