Give 'em a blast, you'll love 'em.

They have such a metallic sound can't get much brighter. Unfortunately, they don't last long if you use them a lot. |

DR Marcus Millers. No question, best string overall hands down. |

| | | | D'Addario XLs. Haven't tried ProSteels yet but you can bet they'll have plenty of zing. For slap I prefer nickel; it has a little more character to the sound. Stainless has high end all the way to the moon, but I find it to be a very cold sound when slapping (though stainless gives a great fingerstyle sound), and I also find that the bass suffers with stainless; less thump more growl, which may be preferable to some, but I like my thump to sound like a metal kick drum.
As far as gauge, I usually go 45-100, with a 130 B-string for my Yammie. If i went with 45-105s I'd probably get more thump, but the response on these sets sounds more even which is just as important for me because I do more fingerstyle than thumbstyle.

| | | | I'll see those who posted RotoSound 66's and RAISE them to "FunkMaster" FM-66's!!
30-50-70-90 Stainless steel.
Great slappers, but this guage is NOT for everyone, especially if you don't have, or know how to play with, a light touch.
But they not only slap, they "Beotch Slap" (can I say that?)
Seriously, I like 'em.
For a lesser attack, I use GHS Bass Boomers XL's also 30-50-70-90, also mighty slappers, a little less brite because they're nickle roundwounds.
Be advised that when you do use strings this light, the neck may well need to be adjusted initially- Most mfrs. use 40/45-100 as OEM gauge.so... |

Just don't try the 5 string version, the B is extremely anemic! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
