Best slippery bass strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
I had the elixers on my schecter and I really liked them, the sound and the feel, but now that they are worn out they are extremely dull. My corvette came with some type of DR's on it and they seemed really gritty and my fingers were getting stuck on them, Now i need strings for my thumb bass any opinions on DR coated?

Get any strings that are best for you, and make them slippery using FastFret..

Flatwounds, tapewounds, half-rounds?

For rounds, I find Elixirs to be as slippery as I'd ever want. IMO, the coating lasts a good long time... months and months. Even on the sets I've been using the longest, I mostly notice wear over the pickup rather than over the frets. If your Elixirs are worn that badly, then just replace 'em.

+1 I use this stuff, it "cleans" them and makes them alot more slippery as well, and it cleans your fingerboard too.

=D

Elixers came on my new schecter, and they are the brightest strings I've ever played, with the bonus of being very slick too.

I just picked up some fast fret and put on some DR's. That stuff works! Almost a little to slippery if you apply it by your left hand though. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, the stock Schecter strings are great. They are a light gauge (lighter then 105 anyway), and seem to have a heavier coating on them.

I just replaced mine with 105-45 Elixers, and the tone got a little bit darker, but not a whole like. It makes the difference between neck and bridge pickup bigger though.

Naturally bright, and naturally slippery without any kind of coating..except nickel

Gotta plug this stuff again. I use it on my Elixirs (polyweb), LaBella flats and TI jazz flats. Nothing but nice smooth non-sticky action!

I'm using D'Addario Half Rounds and I like them quite a bit. The tension is pretty high so if I get another set, I'll go with the lights but they feel great. They also don't have all that round wound harshness. They're very smooth and fat.

I always buff my strings with a scotchbrite. Works great for round or flat wounds. Just a little buffing will smooth out the microscopic jagged edges and remove protrusions.
